Fiberglass Pool Myth #4

MYTH #4:
Fiberglass pools only work in warm climates.

TRUTH:
It is an accepted fact in the swimming pool industry that fiberglass has the ability to “flex” due to its incredible tensile strength, much more so then any other type of pool (i.e. concrete). When someone is concerned about freeze conditions having an adverse effect on fiberglass, they are forgetting that when the water in the pool freezes is expands in an upward direction which has no barriers. The simple fact is that Viking Pool has never had one customer sustain any damage to the fiberglass shell due to freezing weather conditions.

Fiberglass Pool Myth #2

MYTH #2:
Fiberglass Pools are much more expensive than vinyl liner pools.

TRUTH:

Typically, if someone is comparing a Viking fiberglass pool to a liner pools, apples to apples, features to features, they will find that a Viking Pool unit typically runs $5,000-$10,000 more initially, but there are two ways of figuring out the price; the initial price and the initial price plus added expenses of the pool over the course of a lifetime. For example, let’s say your spend $25,000 initially for a vinyl-liner pool. Considering liners will typically late 8 years on average, which can vary depending on a number of factors, before it has to be replaces, and the average cost of a liner replacement is usually between $3,000-$5,000. A vinyl-lined pool owner can spend $8,000-$12,000 on liner replacements alone during the first 20 years. The same principle applies to concrete pools that have to be replastered, every 8 to 12 years, with an average cost of well over $5,000. This is one great advantage of a fiberglass pool. There are almost never large expenses down the road for a homeowner to worry about. When a potential pool buyer figured in the cost of these long-term repairs/expenses, as well as the year to year savings on chemicals, it is no wonder why so many customers are willing to pay more initially for a Viking fiberglass pool in order to pay less and have less headache in the long run.

Fiberglass Pool Myth #1

MYTH #1:
Fiberglass pools pop out of the ground.

TRUTH:
A Viking fiberglass pools will never pop out of the ground if it is properly installed. This is because our fiberglass pools should always be filled with water and the surrounding concrete engulfs the pool’s outer lip, making it impossible for the pool to move unless the concrete moves with it. If any type of pool is installed in an area with a high water table, it is the responsibility of the builder to properly install and safeguard the pool against possible damage due to the high ground water whether it is a fiberglass, vinyl lined or concrete pool.

A Bigger Challenge - The Front Yard

Many customers look out into their backyard and see a vision of what they dream to have, and although that thought might have crossed Michael Rigg’s mind, he choose to take on a bigger challenge, the front yard!

This Viking Poseidon found its home in Spring Branch, Texas, located just yards from the front door of Rigg’s home. Additional to the Viking Pool, is a Viking Placid Spa that spills over into the Poseidon, which was built with a vanishing edge, which spills over into yet another pool! Two fun sized slides can be found on either side of the Poseidon pool, which land the kiddos, ages 6 to 11, into the spill over pool!

“I had been shopping for a pool, and was really looking for an above ground pool,” explains Michael, “My wife soon put a stop to that, when she found pictures of an in-ground pool with a vanishing edge.” So Michael’s search continued and he found himself on the phone with Gary’s Pool and Patio, a Viking Dealer.

“From the first conversation, I felt at ease and very comfortable with them,” says Michael, “They have been there every step of the process, and have just been phenomenal to work with!” Gary’s Pool and Patio had never done a project like this and surly learned much in this first time process.

Currently the front yard houses two pools, two slides, one spa, and a fire pit. Michael explained that the best is yet to come, with plans to build a pavilion to surround the Poseidon, and a possible deck or pool house to the right. Compliments to the pool include custom rock work, Oklahoma Blend from Stone and Soil Depot Inc, and LED lighting from a local San Antonio business, Del Lighting Inc.

“A big selling point of the Viking Poseidon was the safety features,” explains Michael, “with the kids swimming in a seven foot pool, they were a bit shy of it. But we found that with the pools built in seat and toe ledges, it was easy for the kids to latch on if they needed to.”

Michael’s front yard is far from finished, hoping to complete with the next couple years, but the excitement grows with each change made throughout the process. “After adding the LED lighting, we are excited to see how the water will reflect with it,” Michael explained. Yet, as you can tell from the pictures, this front yard is something to talk about!
